Apps for kids are huge on iPhone and iPod touch, as millions of parents pass on (the former) or buy (the latter) for their children and fill them with apps. Something we're particularly chuffed about is the release of a bunch of official Dr. Seuss apps for the devices.

The latest is Hop on Pop, a version of the book of the same name, which teaches children to read with suitably silly rhymes. "THREE. TREE. Three fish in a tree. Fish in a tree? How can that be?" That kind of thing. The app has the original words and artwork, as you'd expect.

However, new for iPhone and iPod touch - and iPad, since this is a universal app - are voice narration and sound effects to accompany the text. There are also other flashes, such as words being highlighted while the story is read out, and flying words when you tap images.

It joins numerous other iSeuss e-book apps from developer Oceanhouse Media, including The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. It also makes games and a couple of Seuss-themed camera apps too. If you're trying to wean your toddler off CBeebies using The Power Of iPhone, they're all well worth a look.
