Hot new Merc AMG GT to challenge Porsche 911, Aston Vantage

Mercedes-Benz chosen the worst day possible to release a car, but launch a car it has – at exactly the same time as the new iPhone 6 and Apple Watch.

Hopefully the world will eventually take notice, though, because that car, the Mercedes AMG GT, looks fapping brilliant.

The Mercedes AMG GT is an all-new offering from Merc’s high-performance AMG arm, which will sit below the bonkers SLS AMG, but above everything else in the AMG range.

The AMG GT will come in two forms; AMG GT, and AMG GT S. Both will use a Mercedes twin-turbocharged V8 engine, with the former having access to 462hp, and the latter to 510hp, while torque is rated at 600Nm and 650Nm, respectively.

The GT will crack 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds, with a top speed of 189mph, while the GT S manages the sprint in 3.8 seconds, topping out at 193mph.

Handling in the Mercedes AMG GT is aided by active aerodynamics in the form of a deployable rear spoiler, and adaptive suspension. With the AMG Dynamic Plus package specified, the cars get dynamic engine and transmission mounts that can operate independently of each other. The mounts can relax or tighten up depending on how hard the car is being driven, facilitating greater comfort or better driving dynamics.

The AMG GT and AMG GT S will go on sale in the UK in April 2015. Exact pricing will be announced in October at the Paris Motor Show, but the GT is tipped to retail for around £95,000, while the GT S should command roughly £110,000.

We’ll have more on this bad boy very shortly. In the meantime, check out the pictures.
