New Porsche Cayman GT4 has downforce for days

With the Geneva Motor Show on the horizon, the entire world and his dog has gone sports car mad, and that includes Porsche. The German carmaker will show off two new sports cars at the show, one unknown and one going by the name of the Cayman GT4.

The Cayman GT4 represents the pinnacle of the Cayman line-up, eclipsing even the Cayman GTS. Whereas the GTS uses a 3.4-litre flat-six engine, the GT4 borrows the 3.8-litre unit from the 911 Carrera S, which is good for 385hp.

Also unique is the fact the Cayman GT4 is the only Cayman that has downforce at both the front and rear axles. This comes courtesy of a new front end with a lowered spoiler and a large rear wing.

So it’s fast then. According to Porsche, the Cayman GT4 has clocked a lap time of seven minutes and 40 seconds on the North Loop of the Nurburgring. That’s puts it in esteemed company such as the Mercedes SLS AMG, Lexus LFA and Nissan GT-R.

That’s all we know about the Porsche Cayman GT4 for the moment, but rest assured we’ll be on hand at the Geneva Motor Show when the car makes its debut alongside another, unnamed high-performance Porche.

Stay tuned.
