Ford Focus still selling like hotcakes: 114 sold every hour

People are buying the Ford Focus like their very lives depend on it. According to Polk registration data, the Focus is the best-selling car in the world, racking up an impressive 509,709 global sales in the first six months of 2013 — a massive 20 per cent more than it did in the first half of 2012.

The figure equates to a mind-boggling 84,951 Focuses per month, or 2,740 cars per day. Want more maths? That’s 114 of the damn things every hour – nearly two every minute.

The UK accounts for 47,675 new Focuses alone, up 8.7 per cent on the 43,853 flogged in the first half of 2012.

Why such fascination with the Focus? Well, it’s a bloody good car for one. But Ford reckons most of the extra sales can be attributed to increasing demand from customers in China and other Asian countries.

The Ford’s little brother, the Fiesta, isn’t doing too badly, either, squeezing into the best sellers list at number four.

“Fiesta and Focus just keep getting better,” said Jim Farley, Ford executive vice president, global marketing, sales and service. “This is Ford’s ‘One Ford’ global strategy at its best: great-looking vehicles with leading fuel economy, leading quality, technology and fun-to-drive personalities.”
