Plusnet launches three month TV trial with YouView

Plusnet is inviting customers to take part in a three month trial of its forthcoming YouView-based digital TV service

In a nutshell, the service is basically the same as BT YouView; you get access to all of the usual digital terrestrial TV channels plus access to BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 through the programme guide.

On top of that trialists will get BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN through their YouView box as well as E!, Fox, SyFy and Universal.

YouView plus Plusnet: Digital terrestrial TV with on-demand extras

The terrestrial channels will be delivered through a TV aerial connection while all the catch up services, sport and entertainment channels will be delivered over a broadband connection.

Like BT YouView which is offered to BT customers who can get the BT Infinity FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) packages, would-be trialists will need to have the Plusnet Unlimited Fibre package and a functioning digital TV aerial.

Plusnet customers will get to keep the YouView box for three months which will be returned at the end of the trial unless the customer wants to sign up for a new TV subscription. Plusnet has yet to reveal how much its TV service will cost or even what it’ll be called.

Sky TV customers with Plusnet broadband are currently being offered BT Sport at half the regular subscription price. Plusnet could well charge its own TV customers the same once it’s launched its service which would make for a very competitive entry into the TV market.

Currently TalkTalk’s TV service, which is also based on YouView, is leading the UK’s fastest growing TV service. BT’s TV offerings, currently split between BT Vision and BT YouView, gives viewers access to BT Sport and Sky Movies. You currently can’t get Sky Sports 1 & 2 on BT YouView, but you can’t get it on BT YouView.
