Sony has confirmed that BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Lovefilm Instant will be available on the PlayStation 4 from launch and will be free to access.
Unlike Microsoft’s Xbox One, which won’t launch with access to iPlayer, Sony won’t require gamers to pay to access the services.
On-demand services like Netflix and Lovefilm Instant will be kept behind the Xbox LIVE Gold (from £3.33/month) paywall, whereas customers won’t be required to pay for the PlayStation Plus service (£5.49/month).

Channel 5 catch-up service Demand5 will also be available from launch, as will gaming site IGN’s app. Sony’s own Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and VidZone on-demand services will also be present, should you wish to use them.
Many of these Fred Dutton, manager for the official Sony Computer Entertainment Europe blog reveals that one more on-demand service to-be-announced will arrive on December 4, but its unclear if this will be a UK service or not.
Wuaki.tv will be available on the PlayStation 4 from launch, but only in Spain. The Rakuten-owned streaming service is available in the UK online, so there’s every chance it could arrive on the PlayStation 4 in due course.
A further 20 services are to be announced between now and Spring 2014, so we’ll potentially see things like ITV Player, 4oD, Sky Go and Now TV early next year.
