BBC Sport app on Panasonic TVs for Olympics and Wimbledon

The BBC’s multi-screen sports app has landed on Panasonic smart TVs in time for this summer’s Euro 2012, the Olympic Games, Wimbledon, and Silverstone F1 GP.

The multi-screen BBC Sport app can be downloaded from Panasonic’s Viera Connect smart TV market allowing viewers to stream both HD video, news and information.

The app will hit its summer peak during the Olympics, when it will carry 24 simultaneous live video streams in high definition, covering every single event.

That will be useful to Freeview viewers, who get a handful of standard-definition video streams via the Red Button, compared to the full HD service on Freesat, Sky and Virgin Media.

BBC Sport’s app will also stream on-demand sports highlights, adding up to 2,500 hours of high definition sports coverage this summer alone.

Panasonic said: “With live and on-demand coverage – viewers can watch the biggest sporting events brought to them by BBC Sport from the comfort of their home with a Smart Viera TV. With just over 60 days until London 2012 starts, this new app will be a most welcome addition.”

Panasonic Smart Viera TVs can also download the Eurosport app, on which users can subscribe to live HD streaming from Eurosport, Eurosport 2 and extra multi-screen content from selected events.

Fabien Roth, director TV group at Panasonic Marketing Europe said: “With the Eurosport Player we further strengthening our Viera Connect eco-system of innovative and benefit-oriented applications.

“It supports our Smart Viera strategy to provide easy-to-use networking functionality, allowing the user to enjoy interactive functionality that goes far beyond traditional broadcast experiences.”
