It’s been another quiet week for BT on the fibre rollout front, with just 4,500 new connections announced for Eversley, Berkshire.

This is on top of announcing details for the test locations where 330Mbps fibre to the premises will be rolled out, plus 98 more locations where fibre will be touching homes and businesses between now and next year.

That, and dealing with emergency repairs in parts of the UK that have been hit by recent floods... Here’s the Broadband Rollout Roundup for the 29th of June 2012.

BT announces 98 new fibre locales, connects 4,500: Broadband Rollout Roundup 29/06/2012

4,500 homes and businesses in Eversley getting FTTC

Fibre to the Cabinet connections will be available to more than 4,500 local homes and firms in Eversley over the coming weeks.

This latest development will help take the number of fibred-up locations in Berkshire capable of getting fibre broadband to 280,000 by Spring 2013.

BT announces locations for 330Mbps FTTP on demand

From July, exchanges in High Wycombe, Bristol South and St. Agnes will see trials of BT’s new 330Mbps downstream and 20/30Mbps upstream service.

As well as BT Broadband customers, subscribers of other broadband providers who have signed up to access BT fibre through BT Openreach ought to be eligible too; we still haven’t heard whether Sky, TalkTalk or Plusnet will be playing ball.

Later, in September, the Waverly exchange in Edinburgh will start trialling the same service.

From March to May in 2013, exchanges in Basingstoke, Cardiff, Manchester Central and Watford will run a different trial on 330Mbps downstream and 30Mbps upstream lines.

These trials are crucial to the future rollout of fibre for BT, as they’ll test how easily FTTP upgrades on demand will be. Once the trials are completed, the idea is that customers will be able to call their ISP and pay to upgrade the last mile of their FTTC line to FTTP, bringing 330Mbps into the home and later, 1Gbps.
