BT has set up over 5 million BT Wi-fi hotspots across the UK and isn’t looking to halt its wireless rollout anytime soon.
Currently adding new hotspots at a rate of around 20,000 every week. If BT continues at this pace, it’ll have another 660,000 hotspots under its BT Wi-fi belt by the end of the year.
This is great news for BT Broadband customers in general and those keen on getting the BT Sport channels in particular.

The forthcoming mobile catch-up BT Sport service will be rolling out to iOS and Android devices in app form and will also be accessible online. Currently, we understand that the BT Sport app will only stream live content over WiFi connections. Just as well that BT customers have plenty of WiFi to make use of then.
BT has also provided figures on where most of its Wi-fi hotspots are in the UK. Londoners can take their pick of over 543,000 BT Wi-fi hotspots and those in the affluent South East of England and make use of 764,000 hotspots. In the South West, there’s 501,000 and 519,000 hotspots in the East. In Scotland, there’s just 464,000 BT Wi-fi hotspots.
While we’re aware that BT Wi-fi is used for more than delivering football, we do feel a bit sorry for Rangers and Celtic fans who won’t be as well served as supporters of Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham Tottenham and West Ham.
Previously known as both BT Openzone and BT Fon, BT Wi-fi is a service that’s free for BT Broadband customers.
