ESPN Player app kicking off on Samsung and LG Smart TVs

ESPN Player has launched on Samsung Smart TVs in the UK and will be coming to LG Smart TVs in the near future. 

The service will offer sports fans more than 1500 live and on-demand events, including NCAA (National College Athletic Association) basketball and American football, winter and summer X Games. Also on offer are American Le Mans Series and the World Series of poker. 

Read our guides to What’s on Samsung Smart TV and LG Smart TVExisting subscribers can log into the service with their ESPN Player username and password to watch sports content on their TVs. New subscribers can create a login name and password via the app and can have a single subscription that works across all available devices. 

Charly Classen, Senior Director, Digital and Marketing, ESPN, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Bringing ESPN Player to connected TV’s is a great way to give sports fans the ability to access their subscription on the best available screen.” 

“The connected TV app is designed with user-friendliness in mind – making the experience straightforward and simple, delivering quality sport to passionate subscribers,” he said. “We’re excited about this stage in the product’s development and expect to continue to grow and enhance ESPN Player in the year ahead.” 

Viewers can download the free on-demand sport streaming service via Samsung Apps. The Player app is available on all 2012 and 2013 model Samsung Smart TVs in the regions. Though the app itself is free, access to content isn’t. 

ESPN Player offers daily, weekly, monthly and annual Pass subscriptions ranging in price from £1.99 to £99.99. 

The broadcaster said that its ESPN Player had seen 90 per cent year-on-year growth in subscriptions to its ESPN College Pass subscription package in August.
