Freesat has launched an Android app that lets you turn your phone or tablet into a smart remote control.
The new Freesat app lets you remotely access the Freesat programme guide and set and delete recordings on set-top boxes like the Humax HDR 1000 S. Recordings can be set wherever you are, provided your device has an active data connection.
When you’re at home, sat in front of the TV and connected to WiFi you can even use your device in place of a remote control, skipping through the programme guide and picking channels from the Freesat on-demand and Showcase menus.
The Freesat app will run on phones and tablets running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or later – in other words over 80 per cent of devices out there right now.
Freesat’s managing director Emma Scott said: “When we launched the Freesat iOS App earlier this year, our focus was to deliver an experience that would be a game changer for free TV viewers and its popularity surpassed our expectations.”
“Following feedback from some of the over 200,000 people who downloaded the Freesat app, we have worked hard to match that success with an app optimised for the Android market.”
Scott added that as roughly 40 per cent of the TV viewing public are Android users, a counterpart to the hugely succesful iOS app was needed.
You can download Freesat for Android from Google Play now. There’s no word on when Kindle Fire owners will be able to get the app directly from the Amazon Appstore.
