Now TV, GoPro, Sky News and Crunchyroll apps coming to Xbox One

Now TV, GoPro, Sky News, Crunchyroll and a host of other new apps are coming to Xbox One.

Following the news you no longer need a Live Gold subscription to access streaming services like Netflix, Microsoft has announced a new list of services that will be hitting its consoles in the near future.

Although many of them won’t be available in the UK, 10 of the 45 announced will be heading to British Xbox Ones.

These include Now TV, Sky’s streaming service for non-Sky TV customers, anime streaming service Crunchyroll and a GoPro app, letting you tap into queasy extreme sports footage uploaded by HERO3+ camera owners.

Additionally, some new services including STV and Filmbox Live will be headed to Xbox 360’s for those who’ve yet to make the jump from last-gen to current-gen.

Here’s the full list of new apps headed to UK Xboxes:

  • Crunchyroll (Xbox One)
  • Filmbox Live (Xbox 360)
  • GoPro (Xbox One)
  • KDrama (Xbox One & Xbox 360)
  • MLG (Xbox One)
  • NBA (Xbox One)
  • NHL (Xbox One & Xbox 360)
  • Now TV (Xbox One)
  • Picturebox (Xbox 360)
  • STV (Xbox 360)
  • Sky News (Xbox One)
  • TuneIn (Xbox One)
  • Vevo (Xbox One)

While launch dates for individual apps haven’t been announced, Microsoft says that all services should be live by the end of Summer.

There’s still no word on when Sky Go will be coming to the Xbox One, as Sky’s main focus for Sky Go is supporting mobile platforms. Sky recently added five new ITV channels to its catch-up service, giving subscribers another window to watch ITV’s World Cup matches on.

Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president, Devices and Studios at Microsoft said:

“Xbox fans are spending more time than ever on the console, spending more than five hours a day on Xbox One.

“Today as we announce new commitments from dozens of our partners, including deep integration with experiences like Twitter and Vine, we hit an important milestone in our journey to deliver unique experiences on Xbox. We’re thrilled to break new ground in social TV experiences like we’re doing with Twitter on Xbox One.”

One app that UK users may get in the future is Twitter integration. The social network appears as an app for US users only that will allow them to see Tweets related to the cable or satellite TV shows they’re watching in real time.

Additionally, the Twitter experience on Xbox One will be integrated into the TV listings section of OneGuide where you will be able to see the shows that people are tweeting about in real-time.

These shows will also be highlighted in a new “trending” section within OneGuide so you know what’s popular right then and there.

“People turn to Twitter every day to enjoy and engage in the real-time conversations about their favorite TV shows,” says Jana Messerschmidt, VP Business Development and Platform at Twitter.

“We’re enhancing that experience on the Xbox One with a unique Watch with Twitter integration.”

“It will now be easier to discover what shows are trending in real-time on Twitter, tune-in and follow the conversation right from within the Xbox One interface. We are excited to work with the Xbox One team and continue to deliver unique entertainment experiences.”
