ITV site redesign puts ITV Player content front and centre

ITV has redesigned its site so that ITV Player content is easier to access on desktops, mobiles and tablets.

The new-look ITV.com is front loaded with links to pages for popular shows like The X Factor, Downton Abbey and The Only Way Is Essex, where you can view clips and watch interviews and easily navigate to ITV Player if you want to catch up on programmes.

Social media sharing tools are embedded on every page should you want to post links to interviews on Joey from TOWIE with your Facebook, Twitter and Google+ contacts.

Get down with Downton on your desktop or on your phone

Read Recombu Digital’s guide to ITV PlayerThe desktop version of the site will take you to the usual desktop player when you click on a ‘watch now’ link whereas the mobile (iOS and Android) versions will send you links to their respective app stores.

If you’ve already downloaded the ITV Player app on your phone or tablet, you’ll be able to open the app from here.

Julian March, Director of Online, said: “We are delighted to be the first broadcaster to be launching a truly mobile first web experience to accompany our fantastic portfolio of programmes.

“The new itv.com will be the second screen for our shows, and is available on any device – be it tablet, mobile or desktop. We believe the platform will give viewers new ways to get closer to the programmes they love, and we look forward to rolling out engaging and interactive content for our audiences.”

As well as making ITV Player and additional programme content easier to find, there are also quick links to programme guides and news and sports feeds.

The new look site will eventually have more of a blog-style design with social sharing features brought to the fore. You can already get an idea of the direction ITV is going in with the This Morning page, which features the new design that will eventually be rolled out across the whole site.

ITV Player for Android recently updated to its latest version which saw it available on non-Samsung phones and tablets for the first time. Though free to watch, many of the shows on ITV Player are ad supported. ITV has launched a Premium feature for the desktop and iOS version of ITV Player which lets you pay to remove the ads. An Android version of ITV Player Premium is in the pipeline.
