LoveFilm gets Twentieth Century Fox TV next month, movies exclusively in 2013

LoveFilm subscribers in the UK will be able to get instant on-demand access to Twentieth Century Fox movies from next March, as part of a ‘multi-year content deal’.

The deal sees films theatrically released in the UK as early as 2011 coming to the LoveFilm platform in 2013 on PC as well as through the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Apple iPad apps, plus ‘a growing number of Internet-connected TV sets and Blu-ray players.’

As well as LoveFilm subscribers able to get exclusive access to new movies on-demand, the deal also sees Fox-owned shows like Sons of Anarchy, 24, Prison Break and others heading to LoveFilm.

The entirety of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (including spin-off Angel) will also be available for download; we pity the true Buffy fans who shelled out for the VHS box sets back in the day.

This deal is the latest in a string of deals inked by LoveFilm and content providers. In May, LoveFilm and Universal joined forces to bring titles like Kick-Ass and new films 12 to 20 months after they’ve been in the cinemas. Similar deals have been signed with the likes of Sony Pictures, Warner Bros and Disney.

Jim Buckle, MD of LoveFilm, said in a statement:

“It feels great to announce another major studio deal for LoveFilm. Twentieth Century Fox is one of the world’s leading studios, known across the globe for creating fantastic, iconic content. This partnership will give LoveFilm members access to the studio’s huge range of recent movies and the opportunity to revisit some of the best American TV series produced in recent years.”

Gina Brogi, EVP of Worldwide Pay Television and Subscription Video on Demand for Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution added:

“We are delighted to be partnered with LoveFilm on this new window for Fox films in the UK. This film and series agreement enables us to give UK fans yet another avenue to enjoy the great stories and characters they have come to know and love from our studio.”

LoveFilm subscriptions currently cost £4.99 a month and can be accessed on over 175 devices.
