Now TV on iPad: Hands-on video demo

At the launch of Sky’s Now TV on-demand service, we got to have a quick play around with the iPad app.

One of the things to bear in mind about Now TV is that the overall experience is largely the same across all devices. Scrolling from left to right between virtual DVD cases is the order of the day whether you’re watching this on your Xbox 360 or on YouView.

Things like menu position and navigation have been tweaked per device, but generally you get the same experience with Now TV regardless of the platform you’re using. So taking a quick look at the iPad app is as good as taking a look at any of the other apps.

You can search for films by scrolling through an exhaustive genre list or by manually searching. Now TV keeps a log of the films you’ve watched under the My Movies tab so if you want to re-watch something then you’ve got your entire Now TV history at your fingertips.

Timeshifting on the app is slick, with nary a trace of lag. When we sat down to watch Office Space we skipped ahead of the 20th Century Fox fanfare with minimal fuss. Perhaps not very expertly as you can see in our video, as it meant us skipping the opening parts of the film. Put simply, it’s easy to skip, rewind and fast forward on the app. And it’s not like we haven’t seen Office Space a million times before…

Now TV: What do you get for £15 a month?

Note that this isn’t available in the App Store just yet but should be with us within the next few days. The PC, Mac and Android versions of Now TV will be available to download tomorrow. Now TV is free to use for the first month and costs £15 a month thereafter. There’s no fixed long-term contracts and if you don’t want to pay to watch every month, then you can pay per film from as little as 99p per movie.
