Samsung redesigns Curzon Home Cinema TV app, adds second screen support

The Curzon Home Cinema app has been updated, adding new sections and a ‘watch later’ feature on Samsung Smart TVs.

Thanks to the new layout and the ‘Most Watched’ and ‘Featured Films’ tab, same-day release titles like Joe starring Nicolas Cage and Ida from director Pawel Pawlikowski are now pushed to the forefront.

You’ll also be able to start watching a Curzon Home Cinema title on one device and carry on where you left off on your Samsung Smart TV.

Curzon Home Cinema is an arthouse on-demand service that charges customers on a pay-per-view basis.

You’ll pay for the content as you watch it, so there’s no signing up to a monthly subscription as is the case with other film apps, with new films costing £4 to watch and older films £2 apiece.

The arthouse cinema chain has a history of collaborating with Samsung. Curzon launched its on-demand service on Samsung Smart TVs back in 2012 alongside an iPad app and web player.

Since then, Curzon Home Cinema has arrived on BT TV and Freesat Freetime boxes, but Samsung Smart TV owners will be the first to enjoy the new-look service.

Phil Mordecai, Director of Curzon Home Cinema, said: “We are extremely proud and excited to be working with Samsung to bring the new-look Curzon Home Cinema experience to Smart Hub TV viewers. Our mix of curated seasons and pioneering cinema content together with an enhanced user experience make the Curzon Home Cinema App on Samsung Smart Hub the clear choice for film fans across the country.”

The enhaced app also features a refreshed interface and allows you to pause, rewind or fast forward content.

The Curzon Home Cinema app joins the BFI’s film app on Samsung Smart TVs, which offers film content from the British Film Institute in addition to documentaries and extra content from the organisation.
