Sky combines HD and 3D in new basic TV package: UPDATED

Sky will launch a £31.50/month basic-tier HD and 3D TV pack but comes with changes to who can see F1 and Sky On Demand.

Sky combines HD and 3D in new basic TV packageEntertainment Extra+ will launch in April, combining 45 HD channels with full access to entertainment catch-up and box-sets on Sky On Demand.

New subscribers to the Entertainment and Entertainment Extra packs will only get catch-up through Sky On Demand.

The changes won’t affect existing subscribers, who will continue to pay £10.25 to get HD channels with any package and get Sky On Demand access based on the channels they can see (for example, you’ll get Sky Living shows if that’s in your package).

High definition channels on Entertainment Extra+ will include ITV2, MTV, Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living, Sky Arts, Discovery and Fox.

Sky’s brand director for TV Products, Luke Bradley-Jones, wrote: “Since we launched HD in 2006, viewing in high-definition has been a huge hit with Sky customers.

“Today, more than 4.5 million of our customers take HD from Sky. This number continues to grow strongly, with around half a million customers taking HD in the last year alone.”

New subscribers who take Sky Sports and Sky Movies with Entertainment Extra+ will also be able to give all of their channels an HD upgrade for £5.25/month.

The £10.25/month HD charge remains for those who want high definition channels with the Entertainment or Entertainment Extra basic packs, even with Sky Movies or Sky Sports.

F1 to become Sky Sports only

Another change for new subscribers is that Sky F1 HD is now only available with a full Sky Sports subscription and HD booster.

Existing subscribers to the £10.25/month HD boost will still get Sky F1 HD without Sky Sports, and Sky said there are no plans to change that in future seasons.
