The Sky Sports iPad app features live streams from up to nine feeds including practice and qualifying runs as well as and the races themselves. Race footage includes including on-board cameras, pits, a driver tracker, highlights and timing pages.

David Gibbs, Director of Sky Sports Digital Media says that Formula 1 is just the start of split screen action for sports broadcasts:

“The update to the Formula 1 companion experience will allow customers to get even more out of our Formula 1 coverage through innovative split-screen technology, which we also plan to introduce as part of our companion app experience for other sports including football and golf later this year.”

Other features of the app include TV guide integration which lets you set reminders with Sky Remote Record and review the next three programmes on a particular channel. Bespoke team pages have been added for international and county cricket and you’ve also got the option to choose your preferred team (or teams) in a favourites section.
