Sky’s Now TV coming to YouView: Sky Movies available from launch

A surprise announcement alongside YouView’s big Lord Sugar-endorsed fanfare was that Sky’s Now TV catch-up service would be coming along for the ride.

Now TV is a new service which will let you watch Sky programmes on pay-per-view basis. Aimed at non-Sky TV subscribers, Now TV will follow a pricing plan similar to Spotify – you can pay monthly for unlimited access or pay-as-you-go-style with no minimum contract.

Sky’s Now TV coming to YouView: Sky Movies available from launch

From launch you’ll be able to rent titles from Sky Movies will be available to watch on-demand from launch with more Sky content arriving later in the year.

A press release we’ve seen says that Now TV will ‘expand to offer sport and entertainment’ but Sky wouldn’t say anything more when we asked. We’re hoping that hit shows from Sky 1 and Sky Atlantic will make up the NOW TV roster alongside Premier League football.

Richard Halton, YouView’s CEO, comments: “YouView is committed to providing the very best content and we’ve had over 300 expressions of interest from potential content partners. We’re delighted that NOW TV and STV will join the line-up.”

We’ve still got no closer word on when exactly Now TV will arrive. The Now TV site still has the same ‘Summer 2012’ splash page it’s had for a while and Sky wouldn’t comment on a release date when asked.

Now TV, coming when it’s done.
