Wuaki.tv aims to make a Killing with Nordic Noir Arrow Films deal

Wuaki.tv subscribers can now stream episodes of The Killing, Wallander and The Bridge along with other international TV and movie hits.

Thanks to a deal with independent movie and TV distributor Arrow Films, owners of the Nordic Noir brand, Wuaki.tv can now offer its customers a wider range of titles.

Alongside Scandinavian noir, the deal sees titles including Italian crime drama Gomorrah, French cop show Braquo and Prisoners of War, the Israeli TV show which served as the inspiration for Homeland

Simon Homent, European content director at Wuaki.tv said: “Our users aren’t purely interested in the latest Hollywood blockbusters, we see a desire for a more diverse range of genres and movie styles from all over the globe.”

“The addition of some of the most popular cult TV series and movies from across Europe will set Wuaki.tv apart in a market that focuses on Hollywood content, and we will continue adding to it in future.”

As well as more recent European imports that have been successfully translated into hit US remakes, the deal promises a wealth of Italian giallo slashers, grindhouse classics, Japanese horror films and independent American titles.

While Wuaki.tv is keen to acquire rights to popular shows like Game of Thrones, the Rakuten-owned company also wants to diversify its offering. Earlier in the year Wuaki.tv announced the addition of a new ‘Best of British’ section, bringing titles from celebrated UK directors including Danny Boyle and Edgar Wright to the table.

Last year, Netflix announced that it had secured the rights to the US remake of The Killing and even had a hand in bringing the show back from the dead for a more fitting finale.

Wuaki.tv also demonstrated 4K Ultra HD streams on LG and Samsung smart TVs at this year’s IFA trade show in Berlin, suggesting that it’s preparing to make a move against the Netflixes and Prime Instant Videos of the world

Wuaki.tv is a pay per view service with rental prices starting at £2.49 per film. Wuaki.tv is available online, iOS, Android, Chromecast, EE TV and Xbox One.
