Apple pulls evil iOS 8.0.1 update, here’s how to fix your crocked iPhone 6

Apple has pulled its latest iOS 8.0.1 update from servers after a large number of iPhone users complained of cellular and Touch ID issues. Here’s how to fix your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and delete 8.0.1 if you’ve already upgraded.

Early adopters of Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were left fuming yesterday after downloading and installing the latest update, iOS 8.0.1, which aimed to address a number of iOS 8 bugs. While the update did indeed solve some problems, such as making HealthKit apps visible on the App Store, it also crocked some users’ phone signal and data service, wrecking the ‘phone’ bit of their iPhones.

Some irate iPhone users have also reported Touch ID fingerprint scanner failures, as well as the cellular issues. For some reason these problems only seem to affect iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners, with older iPhones working as normal.

Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said: “we are actively investigating these reports and will provide information as quickly as we can. In the meantime, we have pulled back the iOS 8.0.1 update.”

How to solve the iOS 8.0.1 cellular issues

If you own an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, and have already upgraded to the dreaded 8.0.1, you can drop back to iOS 8 to solve the issues. Just connect the phone to your laptop or computer, load up the latest version of iTunes and perform a backup. You then need to download the relevant file from Apple to get iOS 8 up and running again.
