Good deal: Amazon gives away tons of apps for Valentine’s

If you have an Android phone or tablet, or one of Amazon’s Fire devices, then good news! You can download over £70 worth of apps and games right now for free.

Following on from its massive Christmas giveaway, Amazon is allowing users of its apps store to download almost 40 titles for bugger all cash. The deal starts right now and ends on February 14th (presumably at midnight), and with a wide range of titles on offer, there really is something for everyone.

What’s included in Amazon’s free Valentine’s app bundle?

The free apps on offer are quite a disparate bunch, but the good news is that you don’t have to download all of them, just the ones that tickle your fancy.

Gamers can get stuck into 80 Days, a funky adventure game that has you plotting the quickest possible course around a strange steampunk world, while getting caught up in all kinds of crazy shenanigans. Likewise, Sorcery 2 brings the classic choose-your-own-adventure to life, complete with virtual dice rolls. Then there’s the colourful Cut The Rope: Experiments to tease your brain and Monsters Ate My Condo to test your reactions.

If you’re an exercise buff still working off those Christmas tarts and shandies, check out Pocket Yoga, Runtastic PRO, Sworkit Pro Personal Trainer and Food Substitutes. Or, if you’re shunning all of that fitness nonsense, the Buy Me A Pie! Grocery List Pro app will help you to stock up on tasty treats.

Then there’s a bunch of productivity stuff too, headlined by OfficeSuite Professional 8, which allows you to edit word documents, spreadsheets, PDFs and all the usual docs. On top of that you can download a scientific calculator, the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English and more.

Finally, we recommend Battery HD Pro and mSecure to keep your phone or tablet safe and boost its longevity.

How do I download Amazon’s free Valentine’s app bundle?

If you have an Amazon Fire tablet, or the Fire phone, then it’s as easy as pie. Just head to Amazon’s online apps store on your device and you’ll find the bundle waiting on the main page.

If you have an Android phone or tablet, you’ll need to do a little more legwork, as you actually have to install the apps store.

First, head to www.amazon.co.uk/getappstore. Tap the button that says ‘install Amazon App Store’ and the apk file should start to download onto your device.

While that’s downloading, head into your device’s settings menu and then go to either Security or Applications. In one of the two, you should see an option to ‘allow installation of apps from unknown sources’. Make sure that option is ticked, or you won’t be able to install the apk file.

When the apk file has downloaded, tap it in your device’s notifications bar. The Amazon App Store will then install on your Android device. When that’s done, open it up (you’ll find it in your apps folder) and you should find the bundle on the main page.
