HTC extends EYE camera experience to the One (M8) in Android 4.4.4 update

If you’re no longer impressed by the Duo Camera or that Ultrapixel technology, the new EYE Experience update should breathe new life into your HTC One (M8)‘s camera.

Last week, Taiwanese mobile manufacturer HTC announced the launch of its newest device, the HTC Desire EYE, which features some rather snazzy camera functionality. It’s now been confirmed that the HTC One (M8) will also be receiving an update to the EYE experience, as well as being in line for Android 4.4.4 KitKat.

The HTC EYE update, which also includes the requisite security fixes, will offer users several new photo enhancements, such as the option to smooth the appearance of their skin, pre-selfie using the Live Makeup option, and the ability to take ‘voice-selfies’ by using a spoken word commands (such as that timeless classic, ‘cheese’) to active the camera’s shutter.

Other features will include Face Tracking, which can track up to 4 faces during video calling, Split Capture, which utilises both front and rear facing cameras at once, allowing users to record what’s happening in front and behind them, and Photo Booth, which lets you take up to four photos of yourself and merge them together to create one single picture.

Perhaps the least useful feature included is Face Fusion, which lets you to blend a photo of yourself and your favourite celebrities together; not a function that we can imagine many grown-ups using, but it might offer a certain appeal to younger users.

HTC is currently rolling out the EYE/4.4.4 update to those with unlocked devices across Europe, and other markets are expected to follow in the very near future, so get ready to enjoy some fun new photo features.
