Finally, us normal folk can buy a OnePlus One this week

The brilliant-yet-frustratingly-elusive OnePlus One smartphone is finally yours to own from October 27th here in the UK, plus 15 other countries.

The OnePlus One has been generating some serious interest since it was announced, partly due to the fact that it offers Samsung Galaxy S5-style performance for a fraction of the cost. And partly because actually buying one is harder than drilling through concrete with your teeth.

Consumers who’ve been waiting with baited breath to get their hands on one will be pleased to hear that it’s finally (almost) possible. OnePlus initially intended to keep up with demand by only allowing special invitees to buy a handset, thus keeping a close eye on exactly how many devices they needed to produce. Of course, like Cartman refusing entry into his awesome theme park, this peculiar approach actually made the device even more coveted.

The company has now announced, via a blog post, that pre-orders will go live from 27th October, but only if you’re in one of the 16 countries that OnePlus ships to: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States.

You’ll have to be quick though – pre-orders will only be possible within a one hour time slot and if you’re lucky enough to get one, you’ll have to wait until every person who made their order before you is taken care of. So, it’s still a bit of a ballache then. But don’t worry, OnePlus will tell you exactly when you can expect to receive your device.

OnePlus will continue to send invitations to purchase a 64GB model, which retails at £269, even after the pre-order window closes. Customers will be limited to buying two devices in any one order, but there are no clues as to how long you might have to wait. We can’t see it being this side of Christmas, but with those specs at that price, we reckon it might be worth the wait.
