Toshiba AT200 Preview

Toshiba had a shaky start in the Android tablet arena with the Folio 100, however all that looks to change with news of a really exciting new mobile device from the Japanese computing manufacturer.

Toshiba recently unveiled the AT200 Android Honeycomb tablet. At just 7.7mm deep, it’s the slimmest tablet in the world – slimmer than the Apple iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy 7.7. Weighing just 558g,

In common with most Honeycomb tablets we’ve seen, the screen is 10.1-inches and has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels. Full multitouch support enables you can flick through homescreens and customise the interface. There’s no news on whether the AT200 will run native Android or include a special skin from Toshiba

On-board Toshiba Media Player supports a selection of photo, audio and video formats. Toshiba has equipped the 2×1.5watt stereo speakers with some technology to improve sound quality, including Adaptive Sound Device Enhancer and Sound Masking Equaliser.

Powered by a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 1.2Ghz processor, with 1GB RAM. There’s a respectable 64GB internal memory too.

Connectivity is excellent, with microUSB, microSD along with mini HDMI for hooking the tablet up to a flatscreen television to play back high definition footage. There’s also a docking port for use with extra accessories.

Dual cameras are found on the device. A rear 5-megapixel camera and front-facing 2-megapixel camera and Flash support is native out of the box.

The Toshiba AT200 will be available in Q4, although there’s been no news on the exact date or pricing yet
