Phones, as much as we love them, can get a bit samey. It's not often that someone comes up with a concept phone design that's actually different and fun. These designs, created by Stefano Giovannoni, Marcel Wanders and Patricia Urquiola for Alessi, really are.

Alessi is well known for its idiosyncratic kitchenware designs, and these mobile products are very much in the same vein.

The handset is designed to look a bit like a face because your mobile phone is your 'partner for the everyday'. There are even accessories in the same style - one charging and docking system makes it look like the phone is walking the dog (above), another features the handset in a tiny bed complete with bedside table and lamp (below).

Adorable, no? Inspired by the iPhone this ain't. While the Alessi handsets aren't necessarily a style that would suit everyone, it's nice to see a bit of original thinking when it comes to handset design.
