BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha revealed

Thorston Heins, CEO of RIM has revealed more information about BlackBerry 10 and a glimpse of the first BB10 handset, designed not for consumers, but for developers.

Speaking at the annual BlackBerry World conference in Orlando, Heins finally revealed the first BB10 handset:  BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha, a prototype designed especially for developers, which will be given out to those attending BB World.

This isn’t the final device – as Heins says RIM is ‘still keeping secrets.’ But the first hardware and software will be arriving later this year.

One thing is clear: RIM won’t be rushed, so we won’t see BlackBerry 10 until it’s ready: ‘we’re taking our time to make sure we get this right.’

Other details of BlackBerry 10 were revealed including conversation flows, vastly improved keyboard and enhanced camera module. Check out the video to find out more.

It was Heins first keynote since taking over in January from Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie. He acknowledged that a lot has been written since then – perhaps referring to the reports (strongly denied) about RIM pulling out of the consumer market.

‘Let me be very very clear to you, I’m here because I believe in the unique value that BlackBerry delivers to its customers every day’ Heins also said: ‘To believe a compelling offering we need to combine fantastic hardware integrated with software and a mobile cloud service.’

RIM now has million BlackBerry users worldwide and 55 million BBM subscribers worldwide.
