HTC launches Sensation XL with Beats audio

HTC has announced the Sensation XL; it’s newest Android smartphone and the second fruits of the company’s collaboration with Beats By Dre headphones.

HTC’s CEO Peter Chou comments: “With Beats Audio, the HTC Sensation XL continues HTC’s commitment of delivering the best audio possible on your phone whether you’re listening to music, watching a movie or
playing a game.”

Code named HTC Runnymede, we caught a glimpse of the phone earlier this year, but now HTC has confirmed its name and full details. According to a spokesperson, the phone will sit alongside the Sensation XE in HTC’s range, or possibly above it depending on network pricing.

The Sensation XL is running Android 2.3.5 running the latest version of HTC Sense – 3.5. This includes HTC Watch for streaming movies.

With it’s large 4.7-inch 480×800 resolution Super LCD screen and slim 9.9mm form factor, it shares the same chassis as the Windows Phone 7.5 HTC Titan, although the aluminium body is white instead of black.

Bundled with the phone is a pair of in-ear Beats headphones and selectable Beats Technology adjusts the sound to suit the music.

Powered by a Qualcomm MSM 8255 1.5Ghz single-core processor with a respectable 768MB RAM, there’s 16GB internal memory, of which 12.68GB can be used, but surprisingly for a music phone (and like the iPhone 4) there’s no removable memory card.

The Sensation XL includes an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, dual LED flash and bright f/2.2 lens, it can also capture 720p HD movies, while a front-facing camera lets you make video calls. Other features include: Bluetooth 3.0, aGPS and DLNA for wireless streaming.

Recombu has some hands-on time with the HTC Sensation XL yesterday, check out our hands-on here.

HTC could not confirm any news on exact pricing or availability, but the HTC Sensation launch date will be Q4, potentially November.
