Apple isn’t about to let the next-gen Android phones and tablets steal the dual-core limelight, it seems. The iPhone 5 and iPad 2 will both reportedly come with some newfangled dual-core chips of their own.
AppleInsider reports that Apple is upgrading to dual-core SGX543 from the single-core SGX535. These should allow for nice things such as 1080p video playback, enhanced graphics and would make Retina Display on the iPad 2 a distinct possibility.
We’d hope that the inclusion of a dual-core chip would mean improved power management and therefore better battery life on both the iPhone 5 and iPad 2.
AppleInsider says that a dual-core SGX543 set up would allow four times the capability of the previous A4 in graphics and video tasks, suggesting that FaceTime will be significantly overhauled on the iPhone 5 and be a main feature of the iPad 2.
