2009 will be known as the year the robots finally took over. Last weekend saw the Isle of Wight taken over by people dressed in acres of silver material at Bestival, District 9 is a box office hit, and even our own Andrew Lim has been assimilated into the cyber-horde.
Now LG has entered the fray. The LG GW620 is the company's first Android device and comes with a large 3-inch touchscreen and a slide out Qwerty. As the GW620 isn't out until later this year LG hasn't released full specs just yet, however the picture above shows it has a large touchscreen, a 3.5mm jack and a Qwerty keyboard. Being an Android phone, we expect that all of the usual Google accoutrements: Maps, Mail, Search, etc will be present and correct.
LG has said that the GW620 will follow in the footsteps of its KS360 and GW520 social networking oriented smart phones. Whether this means that the GW620 will come with Facebook pre-installed like the GW520 remains to be seen. The official Facebook for Android app has just been released, so even if it doesn't then you could simply download it directly from Android Market for free.
There are no details available yet on price or availability but these should become clear round about the same time as the full specs are announced.
