LG Optimus 4X HD: Hands-on pictures and video
LG was pretty quiet on the mobile front through the latter half of 2011. Late in the day we saw a return to form of sorts with the LG Prada 3.0 and then weeks later at CES we saw the LG Spectrum. We really should've taken these phones as a sign of things to come, literally.
The LG Optimus 4X HD seems to embody the best of both of these phones. It's a real looker with a slender frame measuring 8.9mm thick and the back cover has a similar look and feel to the saffiano leather look of the LG Prada's body.
Like the LG Spectrum's incredibly pixel-dense screen, the LG Optimus 4X HD has a 4.7-inch 1280x720 (720p) resolution display with a stated PPI count of 313. Ok so it's a hair shorter than the Spectrum's screen in the PPI stakes. But we think that your eyes won't be able to tell at a glance.
In the hand its rather weightless and airy, a trend we've noticed in a lot of phones recently. The models we snapped were rather warm and a bit fingerprinty from the mass gropings they'd received at the hands of ten billion other tech journos at Mobile World Congress. The hot overhead lights didn't help much either.
What's immediately noticeable is how fluid and speedy everything is. The software on the LG Optimus 4X HD's we saw wasn't 100 per cent finished, with some displaying instability and other telltale signs of incomplete builds. Generally though, performance of the LG Optimus 4X HD was very very slick.
We're looking forwards to getting hold of one and testing it out properly as well as getting hold of that 8-megapixel camera. With a BSI (back/side illumiated) sensor for night/low-light shots we're expecting good things.
Available to pre-order from Clove now for £456, the LG Optimus 4X HD will be coming to the UK before anywhere else around June.
