Remember the LG Prada phone from a few years back? A phone for fashion fans and wags? Well, LG and Prada have announced the next-generation fashion/tech fusion phone.

We saw some fuzzy footage earlier this year of what was proporting to be the new Prada handset, but now it’s been confirmed. Provisionally titled the PRADA phone by LG 3.0, the phone will be launching in 2012 and LG will also be Prada’s exclusive mobile phone partner

The collaboration with Prada phone began in 2006, with phones arriving in 2007 and 2008. The original ‘LG 1.0’ Prada phone (right) sold over 1 million units and has the distinction of being the first capacitive touchscreen mobile phone (yes before the iPhone), earning a place in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Its successor the LG Prada 2.0 utilised a slide-out keyboad and Link technology, but was less popular.

Dr. Jong-seok Park, from LG comments: “Having successfully launched two PRADA phones by LG, we look forward to collaborating further to develop premium handsets representing the most sophisticated style.”

There’s no news yet on details of the handset, such as the operating system or screen size.

We are really curious to see what it looks like and crucially what OS it uses. The market has changed considerably since the first Prada phone, now Android and iOS dominate, with brands such as HTC, Apple and Samsung leading the pack at the premium end of the market. If the Prada phone combines cutting edge smartphone tech with a premium design, LG could be on to a winner, but the market is very competitive now.

What do you think about the latest Prada/LG collaberation? Does the market need another Prada phone? Will we be seeing a Prada/Android phone? Let us know below or via Facebook or Twitter.
