Nokia’s PureView ‘EOS’ phone design allegedly detailed

Nokia’s event last week introduced the world to the Lumia 925, the follow-up to last year’s Lumia 920. That stills leaves us wondering when we’ll see the much-rumoured 41-megapixel PureView Windows Phone, but WMPowerUser may have given us a vague idea of the design of the purported device. The site received details of the handset from a tipster saying that it’s really not too far removed from Nokia’s current designs.

According to the tip, the Nokia “EOS” is constructed using polycarbonate, just like the company’s other range of Windows Phones. The handset is said to be roughly the same thickness as the Lumia 920 – around 10.7mm thick, then – but Nokia has tapered the design to try and force the illusion of a much thinner device. The EOS also apparently includes the same 4.5-inch AMOLED display as the Lumia 925.

The massive sensor and camera lens of the 808 PureView resulted in a big bulge on the back of the phone, but WMPowerUser’s tipster says that isn’t the case on the EOS. The flash is said to be Xenon rather than the dual LEDs found on the Lumia 925, and a red light next to the flash could possibly help with focus assist. Interestingly, the lens is said to have a cover that automatically opens when users launch the camera app on the handset.

Finally, Nokia is said to be including a new camera app on the handset called Nokia Pro Camera. The software suite reportedly includes a brand new interface, as well as features like manual focusing. That’s not too far off what the company did with the Lumia 925: that handset includes a Smart Camera app with multiple shooting modes. As always, these are just rumours, but all of this doesn’t seem to be outside the realm of possibility.
