Following the initial announcement Stateside, us Brits are finally getting a real taste of what Nokia has been cooking up in light of the arrival of Windows Phone 8. To kick it all off, the Finnish company has created the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820: two Windows Phone 8 handsets set to tango with the best of them.
The Nokia Lumia 920 is one of the more beautiful Windows Phone devices out there and although it features a gloss plastic unibody, whilst the competition sometimes offer more luxurious material choices, the fit, finish, precision and detail all scream flagship in the truest sense. The design of the Lumia 920 is an amalgamation of both the Windows Phone 7.5-based Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900, with proportions reminiscent of the latter and details such as the curved glass display reflective of the former.
The display itself is a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ LCD ClearBlack panel with a WXGA (1280×768) resolution. Fancy names aside, in practical terms it looks absolutely stunning with a super-high pixel density making every character and graphic pin sharp, not to mention offering a vivid, if not slightly oversaturated colour palette. The PureMotion branding isn’t just marketing spiel either, the immediacy of the technology is apparent when compared to Lumias of old and an already slick OS feels even slicker.
When this top dog Nokia joins us for review, we’ll be able to really put it through its paces, examine Nokia’s additional software, test out the 8.7-megapixel PureView camera with its ‘floating lens’ mechanical image stabilisation technology and its pulse LED flash. Until then, however, we have to just sit back and enjoy its stunning looks.
