Samsung has announced a new addition to its Galaxy range and affordable alternative to the Galaxy S3, the Galaxy Express boasts 4G, a 4.5-inch screen and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The Galaxy Express looks like a Samsung Galaxy S3, with the same hyperglaze finish, curved corners and back, but specifications can’t match Samsung’s flagship. There’s smaller 4.5-inch WVGA screen, dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory and 5-megapixel primary camera.

Samsung claims the phone ‘makes 4G LTE’s fast network accessible to everyone’ so we’re expecting it to be competitively priced, like the HTC One SV, which it is surely battling against. Talking of 4G it supports multiple bands, so will work on forthcoming 4G networks.

The Samsung Galaxy Express is set to launch in the first half of the year - which is a fairly broad timescale. We’re hoping to have some hands-on time with the device at MWC next month, so we’ll bring you more information then and of course keep this piece updated with information.

Where does it sit in Samsung’s line-up?

It’s a mid to high-tier phone, although the specifications can't match the Samsung Galaxy S3 or Galaxy S3 LTE, but the inclusion of 4G, a 1.2Ghz processor and 4.5-inch screen position it above the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Express launch?

The Galaxy Express is set to launch before June, there’s no news yet on which networks will range it, but we expect EE (as the UK’s first 4G network) to sell it, which probably means T-Mobile and Orange will stock it. We will confirm this with more information nearer the time.

How much will the Samsung Galaxy Express cost?

There’s no news yet on pricing, but we'll keep you updated when we get more information.
