Samsung Galaxy S4 cases suggest new design for upcoming flagship

The original Samsung Galaxy S touched down in 2010 with a soft, rounded design, then one year on its successor; the S2 went for a hard-edge, sharper look, which was reined back in with the arrival of the ‘nature inspired’ Galaxy S3 and if this image of potential Samsung Galaxy S4 cases is to be believed, the ebb and flow of Samsung’s Android flagship design looks to continue.

Despite some conceptual images which show a suggested design for the Galaxy S4, the cases seen here are apparently from a “trusted Chinese accessory manufacturer” in the words of Sammy Hub. Based on the layout of the six coloured translucent cases, the Galaxy S4 with feature a centrally mounted camera with a large square bezel, more like the existing Note 2 rather than the Samsung Galaxy S3. Similarly to the S3 however, space for an LED flash looks to be on offer to the left of the camera and a loudspeaker hold on the right.

Headphone jack placement is the reverse of the current flagship whilst the centrally mounted microUSB port and volume rocker are both in the same place. A long-standing omission on the Galaxy S flagships has been the lack of a hardware camera shutter button and in this instance it looks like things haven’t changed unfortunately.

The handset itself is expected to be revealed at a dedicated Samsung Unpacked event on March 15th, with no known venue yet set. Initially talk had been that Samsung might finally decide to reveal the new phone a little earlier amidst MWC, but it simply doesn’t seem to be their style.
