Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray launching in September on O2

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray will be available on O2 in September. The phone has just popped up on the company’s ‘Coming soon on O2 page’ on the O2 website, although there’s no option to pre-order it yet.

The Xperia Ray is a stunning handset offering many of the features of the Xperia Arc, but in a more compact chassis and presumably at a lower price.

Just 9.4mm deep, it’s runs Android 2.3.3 and includes a scratch resistant 3.3-inch Reality Display screen. It looks to continue Sony Ericsson’s pedigree of excellent cameraphones, with an 8-megapixel camera with bright f/2.4 lens and 720p HD movie mode, it also improves on the Arc, by adding a front-facing camera.s

We tried an early version of handset last week at Sony’s Christmas showcase (check out our Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray hands-on here) and were really impressed. It looks eerily similar to Sony’s Walkman mp3 players, but feels like a premium product, we can certainly see it appealing to anyone who wants a smaller handset than the Xperia Arc.

There’s still no news on pricing or the exact launch date, but we’ll bring you news as soon as we get it. Are you waiting for the Xperia Ray? Let us know below or @recombu on Twitter.
