Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 gets early Ice Cream Sandwich port courtesy of XDA

Pity the poor Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. SE’s first big foray into Android launched with 2.1 Eclair 1.6 Donut round about the time that 2.2 Froyo was making headlines.

A prolonged update saga ensued, with the Xperia X10 bypassing Froyo altogether and jumping straight to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Yes, really, that’s how long it took.

Then, Sony Ericsson goes and confirms Ice Cream Sandwich for it’s current ‘2011 line-up’ of Xperia phones, one again leaving the Xperia X10 out in the cold.

But there’s a happy ending in sight; plucky developer zdzihu over on XDA has just released an alpha port of Ice Cream Sandwich for the X10.

Unfortunately at the moment the build is a little unstable. There’s connectivity issues with Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth all either having trouble connecting or in some cases not connecting at all.

As this is a work in progress, you might not want to dust off your old Xperia X10 and plug it in right away. But if you’re interested, hit up the link to the original thread below to track the progress.
