Just yesterday we saw reports that indicated Sony is working on two new flagship handsets, one of which is codenamed “Honami”. Further details of that handset have now emerged courtesy of VR-Zone, particularly of the camera sensor that Sony may use for the alleged handset. The company is said to be looking at a larger sensor size that would surpass sensors found on the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4.
According to VR-Zone’s information, Sony is looking to use a 1/1.6″ Exmor RS sensor that would be larger than what’s found on competing smartphones. The publication believes that the Honami will have the largest camera sensor on an Android smartphone, surpassing even the Samsung Galaxy Camera, but not quite matching the Nokia 808 PureView.
In addition, Sony is said to be including a full suite of processing capabilities found on its Cyber-shot range of cameras. The user interface of the camera software will also apparently see a complete overhaul, with Sony expanding on its Superior Auto camera mode seen on the Xperia Z. VR-Zone also believes that Sony will use either a Xenon or dual LED flash on the Honami.
Finally, the publications hints at the design of the handset. VR-Zone says that the large camera sensor won’t have as much of a dramatic impact on the design of the phone as the Nokia 808 PureView. The handset is said to be quite thick, however, at around 10mm to accommodate the improved camera. Materials used in the construction of the phone may include glass, metal, and carbon fiber.
