Nokia's 6300 is a no-nonsense, no-frills handset that does what it says on the tin. Its traditional, unfussy exterior will appeal to those who want their phone to be a phone first, and everything else second.
What we like
We love how unpretentious the 6300 is. The design of the Nokia 6300 is beautifully conventional. Its stainless steel and glossy plastic jacket lends it a crisp, desirable feel and the numeric keypad and menu keys are straightforward and simple to use. The screen is bright and boasts a sharp display.
The menu layout is very straightforward and doesn't take long getting to grips with. It's not so low-tech that things such as custom wallpapers and ringtones can't be added for an element of personalisation. There's even a 2-megapixel camera and microSD card slot to boot.
What we don't like
OK, we got a bit carried away with how much we love simplicity, the 2-megapixel is a bit prehistoric when compared to 5 and 8-megapixel camera phones available today, and it doesn't come with a flash. There's no GPS, no 3G and no Wi-Fi, in other words this is a very basic phone.
You will at some point in your life know at least 3 people who own or have owned a Nokia 6300. It's popular because it works and we love it -- this is one of Nokia's finest phones to date. If you want a low-cost phone that's reliable and robust, and you're not bothered about all the extras then this is a great phone that we highly recommend.
Nokia 6300 User Reviews
"A fairly average phone with an average camera, but a good mp3 player. The phone buttons are very slow and unresponsive, and texting can take ages. Judging by the looks it is a quality piece of hardware, but the software inside can't keep pace. It is becoming a bit frustrating . Even the phone ring tone is very quiet."
"The Nokia 6300 is probably the most basic phone I have had recently, but it is probably my favourite also. It is a very simple phone, and it is its simplicity that makes it such a good phone. It has everything you could ask for: bluetooth, camera, mp3, radio, internet, e-mail, calendar. What more could you want? Size wise it is neat and tidy, and it doesn't seem to suffer from some of the problems I have had with previous phones like poor signal strength or over sensitive buttons. Added to this is the remarkably reasonable price. Just under £80. Not bad for a phone that functions really well. The buttons work well, and I haven't found I've hit them by mistake. It has a 2MP camera which actually takes pretty good pictures which don't end up grainy. A very unfussy phone which does what it's supposed to do."
"For many people, this is probably going to be the perfect phone. It is very well priced, actually quite stylish and doesn't carry any unnecessary features that you just don't need, and added to that, all the features it does have work well. The casing is made of metal which means it stands up to a fair bit of daily wear and tear. My only small criticism is that the headphone jack is a bit smaller than usual in a lot of phones which means that you are limited as to what you can plug in. All in all though, a little gem."
"This is one of the nicest phones I have ever had. Some people will regard it as a bit basic, but to me, it does just exactly what I want it to and no more. No extra bits that you won't really use. It is really well made and slim, so it doesn't take up a lot of room in my pocket. I was reading beforehand that it had won a number of awards, and I'm not surprised. The camera is surprisingly good and the mp3 player sound is excellent. Apparently, you can even alter the size of text, so it is useful to know you can customise it easily."
"This phone is excellent. Well made and stylish. Great functions. If I have to complain; some of the functions have been put in places where you maybe wouldn't expect to find them, such as the countdown timer, which is actually in the organiser menu. The battery doesn't last as long as advertised. I know some of the functions are more intensive, but you should be able to maintain enough power to use them."
"This phone looks lovely, but because it is so slim, it is sometimes difficult to use the keys because you cannot press them down far enough, which makes it difficult to know if they have registered, unless you look. The memory card supplied is only 128mb which meant I had to go and buy a higher capacity one. This adds to the cost of the phone, although the phone itself is a nice price. This is a great phone."
"A phone that does everything! An mp3 player. The camera is only 2mp, but even has night mode. I can use it to take short video clips. The calendar is great because it has memo and reminder functions built in, which makes it very useful if I have to be somewhere by a certain time, rather than relying on my memory. It has a calculator as well, which is useful because you never have one when you need one. Excellent!"
"I can't get over how good this phone is, especially for the money. It has bluetooth, mps, camera. It looks fantastic. It is very slim and easy to use. Good pictures. Great sound. There is even the ability to sert different text sizes if you find that the one you are using is not suitable for the application. It is a fairly intuitive phone, so it doesn't take a long time to get to know. I hate reading instructions."
"This is a surprisingly good phone with one or two features I didn't expect on a phone costing about £80. For the price, I didn't expect it to sync with the mail on my Apple Mac. I thought only some of the more expensive phones would do that, but it does. A great little phone."
"I originally bought this phone for someone as a Christmas present, but ended up buying one myself. It has all the latest technology you could need, and it all appears to be high quality. Pictures are pretty good for a 2MP camera. The sound of the mp3 player is much better than I expected. All the little extras make this a great little phone."
"Try visiting any of the major mobile phone web sites and you are likely to be met with so much choice it is difficult to know where to start. My advice would be, if you don't want a specific model, but you want one that does most things reasonably well, and you want something which is very reasonably priced, then go for this little beauty."
"What makes this phone less than perfect are the connectors. The phone itself is brilliant, but this one comes with a USB connector, which means I can't use the charger on my car kit. Every other Nokia phone has had the same connector. Why change? Added to that the headphone connection is smaller than usual, so you can't use any type of headphones."
"What I like about this phone is it's simplicity. It is beautifully thin, it has a load of different features that you would probably find on more expensive phones, and the build quality of it is great. I think this is what the mobile phone was meant to be like. It is discreet. You don't have to have a degree in space technology to understand it."
"Perfect phone if what you want is a phone, rather than an MP3 player, or camera etc. The keyboard has an excellent weight, the screen is bright and clear, there is expandability to allow more SMS to be saved, the phone will survive some rough handling, and it is all small and light. A modern classic!"

"Durable phone that has been dropped stood on etc etc still going strong. Only downside is the battery life is about a day and a bit so you are constantly charging it. Liked it so got another one for this years upgrade!"
"Awful phone, buttons wear out quickly, 3 buttons have even stopped working!"
"Not what you would call a desirable phone, but solid - dropped plenty of times, and once thrown by the dog. Maybe a bit small for most male hands, however you can't argue with the compact size. Would have liked the screen quality a little 'better' compared to some, but can't argue for the money. I've read other comments about poor battery life, but mine lasts for 7-8 days which I think is fair."
"I really like this little phone. It is very reliable and battery life isn't bad. The white model is very stylish and has attracted lots of comments from admirers."
"Has to be one of my favourite Nokia designs! Simple, stylish, user friendly and reliable. The screen is superb, very clear and easy to read. The camera could be better but takes good pictures. A lovely slim and sleek phone id be loathed to part with."
"i have been mis sold this phone as the battery life is very poor. in the book it says 240hrs standby, but only get 2 days! i found this out after my 14 days offer and now i'm stuck with a phone which doesn't suit my lifestyle!"
"Awesome phone, advanced yet simple enough for anyone to understand. Good picture quality, can be grainy when dark but what 2g camera isn't!? Can get stylish cases rather than the original silver including new screens if it gets scratched. Battery life is brilliant, in full use all the time can last up to 4 days. Bluetooth is very fast with most other mobiles and although internal memory isn't massive you can purchase 2g+ memory cards to compensate and therefore can hold an awful lot of files. Overall absolutely brilliant phone, works fabulously. Worth every penny (and i bought it when it fist came out at £120!) Advise to you >>>> BUY ONE NOW!!!"
"I have always had Nokia phones but this is just too hard for me to understand. There is no easy way to download music for ringtones after buying a cable and loading the cd. I don't want to go on the internet with it nor listern to music, just like to phone and text, cannont see the point of bluetooth either.
Just a waste of money."
