A new and improved version of Nokia's wildly successful N95 smart phone that, as its name suggests, comes with 8GB of memory. Is this just a simple memory upgrade or is it a better phone?
What we like
The N95 8GB doesn't really do anything that the N95 didn't - it does more of the same, only better. The N95 8GB’s screen is larger which makes a pleasing difference when watching films that you can store on the 8GB of internal memory. The battery has been improved, so you can snap more pics, surf the net for longer and listen to more music.
What we don't like
Lack of a card slot means that this phone will frustrate you if you're looking to add more memory or need to install a GPS app that comes on a card. At times we found the N95 8GB crashed but it was infrequent and may have just been our review model. Also, if you're looking to buy the N95 8GB SIM-free it's not as cheap as other models.
The N95 8GB is a welcome update to the N95 and offers a more polished offering. There's plenty to like here, with a larger screen and improved battery life. Hardcore users who want to swap cards and expand the memory will be disappointed by the lack of a card slot, but 8GB should be more than enough for most users.
Nokia N95 8GB User Reviews
"best phone none else can beat its quality .. its the 1 n only best thing
i used it for 3 years and i am really surprised by this phone
truly amazing :D"
"I had the original N95 so I knew what to expect, but I was surprised at the quality of the little improvements. It actually makes the phone much easier to use so now when I see people with the old version I get a bit smug. It's not cheap, still, but for me it's well worth the cash to have a phone that serves my needs."
"Really it's a bit stupid carrying around some fatass MP3 player, camera, phone, all separate. This was pointed out to me recently since the developments in what a phone can do had slipped by me. Anyway now I'm firmly in the 21st Century so only 8 years late that's not bad by my standards. Couldn't possibly explain all the gadgetry it'll take me about a year to work it out. I'm learning how to check my emails, so you get an idea of how slow I am."
"Ha ha the games on this phone are the funniest. I was never that into computer games but I've got really into this N-Gage thing. There's all sorts of different stuff available, for kids or adults or whatever. For half an hour at lunch it really cheers me up some lunchtimes I haven't even been eating anything, which the missus will be happy about. It's got "generous proportions" though I'd say, bit like me, so if you don't' use the memory and games and stuff I'd get something bit smaller."
"I only ever buy Nokias - I've never bought one that went wrong, I always just upgraded in the end. My friends who buy phones made by other companies seem to have loads of problems, but then also they don't take care of them like I do! You'd never catch me spilling beer on my brand new phone for example (let's hope you're not reading this) - honestly some people are just useless. Imagine putting your phone on the bar when everyone's getting drunk and spilling beer all over the place."
"You'd think having put out however many versions of the N95 already Nokia would have sorted out more of the bugs and stuff on this unit. It just seems to happen so often, it's pretty frustrating. Maybe they'll sort out the firmware for it because the phone itself has a lot of potential."
"Its not exactly the most portable phone in the world, but you get a really big screen and vast amounts of memory to make up for it. For me the balance is about right, I don't usually carry it around with me what with having two phones at the moment. Its really pretty heavy and chunky, but still looks good I think. I tend to take the other one out except when I'm working mainly because I keep thinking someone's gonna steal it, or that I leave it somewhere. Maybe I should stop watching so much Crimewatch but I know the local kids would have all their christmases at once if they see me walking along talking on this beauty. But that's no reason not to get one, anyway almost any new phone is pretty interesting for thieves. Just sort out insurance I guess."
"I've wanted an N95 for ages but I thought I'd wait until the 8GB version came out, mainly because I've always got my headphones on so I get bored if there isn't enough music to choose from. The quality of playback seems as good as most MP3 players so no worries there. Like the way you sort the files too. So I'm happy, the rest of the features are not of much interest. I still find the internet pretty frustrating on a little phone, I just wait until I get home unless I need to find something out desperately. It does seem a lot better than other phones I used for the internet, something to to with the RAM I think. Anyway good job overall I'm trying really hard but I can't think of a single bad thing to say!"
"The main thing about Nokias is they're all really easy to use. It seems like they pretty much invented mobile phones, which obviously isn't the case but you just pick up their phones and they just work and do what you want to do immediately. That's a really important thing for me - I haven't got time to be fiddling. Its got crazy features on it, and I haven't even got enough music to fill the memory card. You can't believe they fit all that onto a card of that size. It makes you wonder, really. It might not be quite the coolest phone on the market but its so functional I reckon it's a great choice. Nokias never seem to break (touch wood) so with any luck I'll have this one for ten years like I did the last one."
"The sound and video on this phone are far better than my previous phone. A major improvement. I have to say that what attracted me to the phone was that it could do everything, but I find I don't use them all. An 8GB card holds all the music I need, and I use the phone for taking family photos. Great. Not bad quality at all. Even the FM radio works pretty well. Basic text messaging is sound and easy to use."
"A great phone with tonnes of features. Not only is it a phone but email client, web browser, SatNav system, handheld Games Console, eBook reader, mp3 player, video player, Fitness monitor (Sports Tracker route/speed/time logger), Digital Camera, Digital Camcorder, Dictaphone, the list goes on. Unfortunately it won't make a cup of tea..."
"A very good phone but I have found that on quite a regular basis the phone software crashes meaning that the phone needs to be switched off and on again. can become quite annoying.but apart from that is a very very handy piece of kit.7.5/10."
"I'm very satisfied cause it has all the functions I need daily!!!"
"just simply the best mobile I have ever had"
"this is the phone im looking to get next."
"very good phone it has everything you need on it the features are various as they all have their brilliant style of entertainment and a good camera phone. This phone is a winner for me."
"very good phone, great use of features and excellent camera. This phone is a winner for me!!"
