The Sony Xperia Z, Apple iPad 4, Google Nexus 10, Asus Padfone 2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1; five of the hottest 10-inch tablets out there, but what’s the difference and which one’s right for you?

Check out our marathon video below, in which we fondle all five, talking you through the key differences, strengths and weaknesses of each.

With every tablet mentioned packing its own unique advantage over the competition, scroll down below the video for a short snippet about each:

Sony Xperia Tablet Z – Android 4.1

The newest tablet in the roundup and the current apple of our eye, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z is just 6.9mm thin and weighs a waif-like 495g. Thanks to its IP57 certification, it’s water and dust resistant, so is the perfect tablet for a holiday or a household.

Thanks to its full HD display and quad-core processor, it’s also a capable performer, able to chew through HD video and handle 3D and 2D games alike.

Apple iPad 4 – iOS 6

The Apple iPad 4 will be the default choice for anyone with an iPhone who wants more of the same. The App Store offers reliably high-quality apps and iOS is an easy to use interface.

The tablet is heavy, so won’t be as comfortable as most of the other tablets to hold for long periods when reading or watching content. It’s also non-expandable, with our recommended iPad size being at least 32GB.

Google Nexus 10 – Android 4.2

Still the best value high-end tablet on the block, the Google Nexus 10 packs class leading screen resolution with 300 pixels per inch. Thanks to the tablet’s grippy backing, it’s comfortable to hold and with stock Android 4.2 on board, has the latest Google experience.

Anyone with a Google Nexus can expect quicker updates than any OEM branded device as well as a reliable bit of cost-effective tech. How cost-effective? With the 16GB version coming in at £319, very, though bear in mind, the slate isn’t microSD expandable.

Asus Padfone 2 – Android 4.1

Convergence is what the Asus Padfone 2 is all about. With all the brains in the phone, slot the handset into the back of the tablet dock and it comes to life, taking the 4.7-inches all the way up to a comfortable 10.1.

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and 2GB RAM, it’s a capable combination device, and with 32GB internal memory should give you plenty of space for all your games, music and movies.

Speaking of games, it’s probably the best gaming mobile / tablet combination we’ve come across. Why? Because game saves work across both phone and tablet form-factors.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 – Android 4.1

While it’s one of the oldest tablets on the scene, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is still current thanks to its S Pen. Delivering an incredible 1024-levels of pressure sensitivity, creative folk out there will love doodling across the generous display.

While the screen is lower resolution than we’d hope from a 10.1-inch device, with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and 149 pixels per inch, the tablet is expandable, packs quad-core power as well as front-facing speakers.
