HTC Desire Android 2.2 (Froyo) rollout to begin this weekend

By Thomas Newton on Friday, 30th July 2010

Just as the last of the HTC Heroes have been getting their upgrades to Android 2.1 (aka Eclair), we’ve heard from HTC that the official Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for the HTC Desire is due to hit European shores this weekend.

As well as coming with all of the Froyo features we’re familiar with, the Desire is going to get a few neat tricks of its own.

On 2.2, your Desire will sync with iTunes using HTC Sync - something we're very keen to see in action. Other improvements include the ability to record HD video at 720p, improved caller ID and a revamped keyboard.

The update will also see the Desire getting the HTC App Share widget which we first saw on the HTC Wildfire. The handy little tool makes it easy to let friends with Android phones know all about them sweet apps you’ve read about on Recombu.

As with the Nexus One and HTC Hero, the update will arrive over-the-air; a notification will appear in your status bar. There’s no need to back anything up as the app won’t delete anything, but HTC does advise that you use a Wi-Fi connection to download and install the app to avoid any possible data charges.

Unlocked handsets will get the upgrade first, with operator versions due to get theirs in a few weeks.
