Huawei Ascend D quad announced as “the fastest smartphone”

Huawei has just announced the Ascend D quad, its latest high-end device and reportedly the fastest smartphone in the world. Powered by Huawei’s own K32V quad-core chip (listed as having speeds of 1.2GHz and 1.5GHz) it promises a seriously speedy performance and up to 30 per cent in energy savings.

“We’ve listened to people’s top demands from smartphones: speed, long-battery life, high quality visual and audio capabilities, and a compact, lightweight handset. The Huawei Ascend D quad exceeds these expectations,” said Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei Device.

“In January at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, we achieved a world record for the world’s slimmest smartphone with the Huawei Ascend P1 S. We are proud to once again introduce a world-first at the 2012 Mobile World Congress with the Ascend D quad, the fastest smartphone.”

That’s some claim; whether it will end up entering the Guiness Book of Records as the world’s fastest remains to be seen but it sounds like it’s going to be pretty darn quick.

Powerful processot aside, the Huawei Ascend D quad features a 4.5-inch screen with a 1280×720 (720p) resolution and a PPI count of 330. An on board 32-bit GPU boasts powerful true colour renditions and the screen boasts “crystal clear display even under direct sunlight.”

Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and Huawei’s Audience earSmart technology are on board for sharp music playback and high call quality.

The 8-megapixel camera, like that of the LG Optimus 4X HD, boasts 1080p HD video recording and has a BSI (back/side illuminated) sensor for low-light shots. There’s a 1.3-megapixel camera ‘round the front for videocalls and the Face Unlock feature of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Measuring 64mm wide and a tiny 8.9mm thick the Huawei Ascend D quad is no brick. Though not quite as skinny as the Huawei Ascend P1 S, we’re again amazed by the amount of gear that Huawei has crammed into such a tiny frame.

The Huawei Ascend D quad will be available worldwide in Q2 2012. More release date and price info when we hear it and hands-on pictures as and when we get them.
