LG GW520 and LG GT505: Social networking on the move

By Karl Sharpe on Thursday, 4th June 2009

The LG GW520 and the GT505 have arrived with promises of easier access to social networking services while on the move. It has to be said that both handsets look like phones that are already available. The GW520 is an almost identical replica of the KS360 and the GT505 looks like a curvier version of the Viewty.

The GW520 features a full slide out QWERTY keyboard, so you can easily type out long messages and it promises to be Microsoft Exchange compatible so push email will make it even easier to stay in touch with friends -- or the office if you are so inclined.

A 2.8" full touchscreen along with full HSDPA compatibility means internet browsing on the GW520 won't make you cry tears of pure frustration. A 3-megapixel camera has been thrown in so you can capture those moments that your friends would rather forget. According to LG, you can rapidly upload your photos to Facebook -- just to cause maximum embarrassment even faster.

Aside from embarrassing your friends via social networking sites, the GW520 also has a feature called LiveSquare. LiveSquare allows you to see the friends that you talk to the most as an animated character on your home screen, so you can easily reach your favourite contacts at the touch of a button.

The next phone that LG announced is the GT505. It's an altogether better looking device than the GW520, even if it has distinct echoes of the LG Viewty. The GT505 comes pre loaded with a 30 day trial of a navigation solution called Wisepilot. Wisepilot is a turn by turn navigation program that even offers voice instruction and a choice of 2D and 3D mapping. The GW520 has a 3" touchscreen and offers the same HSDPA and push email functionality as the GW520.

Aside from the upgraded screen the main difference between the GW520 and the GT505 lies in the camera as the GT505 has a much more capable five megapixel snapper built in.

Both of these handsets should be available in June, the LG GW520 will be available from most networks while the GT505 will initially only be available from Orange.
