Motorola Flipout: Square multi-touch handset complete with Qwerty

Motorola has at last announced a new handset for the UK market! Rejoice, rejoice – we were starting to worry. The Motorola Flipout is a funny little handset, square in shape and part flip-phone, part slider with a five-line Qwerty keypad – that means you get your numbers separately, which we wholeheartedly approve of. Looks a little familiar to us as well – coughcoughKincough.

The Motorola Flipout will be running Android 2.1 so it’ll be fully Flash-enabled. You’ll be able to customise your seven homescreens to your heart’s desire with live wallpapers, favourite apps, top contacts and so on.

Handset-wise, the Flipout is rocking a 3-megapixel camera with digital zoom, CrystalTalkPlus for higher call quality thanks to dual-microphones cancelling out background noise and a multi-touch screen for when the Qwerty is safely stowed.

The handset will also feature an enhanced version of Motorola’s social networking amalgamator – Motoblur. With all your networks in one handy place (from Facebook to Twitter to email addresses and Last.fm) you can back-up contacts and log-in information, as well as customising what information is sent to your homescreen and quickly and easily update statuses.

The Motorola Flipout will be released in the UK with Orange this summer – no official release date yet but we’ll keep you posted. It’ll be released in a range of colours and aimed squarely at hipsters, which explains the square shape – same shape as their lens-less hipster glasses.
