O2 Palm Pre: home of the iPhone nabs the Pre

O2 has secured a UK exclusive for the long awaited Palm Pre, according to a piece in yesterday's Guardian. The article says that O2 managed to fend off stiff competition from rivals Orange, making the network the exclusive holder of two of the most sought-after smart phones of the year.
The Palm Pre went on sale in the States last month and we wondered whether the Pre would make it over here before September or even in time for Christmas. Palm is expected to announce the deal next week and hopefully include contract details.
Despite a bevy of multimedia touchscreens being rushed out in the wake of the original iPhone, the Palm Pre is perhaps the first phone to justifiably be called an 'iPhone killer'. As we've said before, the cards interface works beautifully and thumbing through the Pre's various operations is as smooth as mercury on a silver platter. The Palm Pre truly offers a touchscreen experience to rival that of the iPhone.
Apple may have had cause for concern earlier this week when it Carphone Warehouse announced it had sold out of 16GB versions of the iPhone 3GS. This might have lead to the Pre stealing a march on the 3GS as customers coming out of their contracts might not want to wait around but fortunately we just received word from Carphone that the 16GB iPhone 3GS is coming back into stock this week. Customers who place an order by 3pm today should receive their iPhone 3GS's by Friday, subject to a successful credit check.
