You know how celeb rags Photoshop giant red rings about various parts of celeb's bodies? Just to remind us that underneath they're not perfect and hey, they're just like us at the end of the day. Well the launch of the long awaited Palm Pre in the States over the weekend felt a little bit like that.
The Palm Pre touched down in stores across the US on Saturday, and already there have been numerous reports coming in from customers across the web about distorted or discoloured displays, dead pixels, and random shut downs.
Pictures included here, courtesy of Engadget Mobile and Laptop Mag show the offending blotches -- you've really got to stare at it for a while to notice it's there but once you do, you'll notice it every time. More worrying are the random turn offs, which are apparently solved by taking the battery out and putting it back in again, not an ideal solution for any mobile phone user.
There are also reported issues with the Qwerty keypad such as text fields in the browser don't recognise the full line up of symbols (the sub menu of symbols that you need to press the 'Sym' key to load up), which for a handset sold on it's web operations doesn't bode well.
We'd be very surprised if there weren't any snags or teething pains from day one. Android fans will remember well the launch of the T-Mobile G1, which contained a software bug which caused the phone to reboot if anyone typed the word 'reboot' into a text message or email field. UK Pre fans can hope that bug fixes will be released prior to the announcement of a release date.
