Sometimes we see technology that blows our minds. Qualcomm's mirasol display is a colour display that's based on interferometric modulation technology. According to Qualcomm, it's works in a similar way to the phenomenon that makes a butterfly's wing shimmer – whatever that means. What's amazing about the mirasol display though is that it can be seen in direct sunlight and it uses a lot less energy than a standard mobile phone screen. The mirasol display can also handle video pretty well and we were told that it's compatible with touchscreen technology. At the moment the technology is being pitched to e-reader manufacturers but we hope to see it in a mobile phone soon.
