I can has three Samsung fones pls? Samsung has announced three new additions to the Omnia family, a super-powered smart phone, a whip-smart business model, and a bare-bones entry-level touchscreen.
The all-in one Omnia II (above and left), which was revealed last week, is a high-specced beast which boasts the biggest AMOLED touchscreen seen on any phone to date - an impressive 3.7-inches. The resistive display is capable of reproducing DVD quality video playback, and allows users to download video on the move thanks to fast 3G connections and Wi-Fi.
This makes the Omnia II an ideal device for watching films downloaded from the Samsung Movies online store. The Omnia II also houses an 8.1 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, so you'll be able to take richly detailed pictures the size of houses and upload them to Facebook on the go.
The Omnia II will also be available in a variety of sizes memory wise. There will be 2GB and 8GB versions, alongside a meatier 16GB edition. All iterations will feature a microSD card slot, which means that the total amount of potential memory available weighs in at 48GB.
Next up is the Omnia PRO B7610 (below left), a touchscreen tablet that hides a four-row slide-out Qwerty keyboard. Like many business phones, the Omnia PRO is partitioned into separate 'Work' and 'Life' modes. In work mode, push email for multiple accounts and Office Suite is pushed to the fore, whereas in life mode the multimedia functions of the Omnia PRO comes to life.
The Omnia PRO comes with a 5-megapixel camera, and like the Omnia II features an AMOLED display. The high definition properties of the display combined with the built in A-GPS receiver means that maps should look bright, detailed and clearly legible, making the Omnia PRO an excellent sat-nav solution. 1GB of internal memory is included, but the Omnia PRO can take microSD cards of up to 32GB in size.
Finally, we have the Omnia LITE B7300, which as its name suggests is a specced-down touchscreen affair aimed at mobile punters who want a well built and nice looking phone, but aren't necessarily fussed about the latest and greatest features.
The Omnia LITE comes with a 3 megapixel camera, support for all of the main audio and video file formats and memory which can be expanded to 32GB with microSD cards. Unlike its Omnia siblings, the LITE doesn't have an expensive AMOLED, but you can be certain that the price point will outweigh this.
All of the Omnia phones will ship with Windows Mobile 6.1 installed, with Samsung's own TouchWiz 2.0 interface running on top. However, upgrades to Windows Mobile 6.5 will be rolled out once the new OS is available.
There's still no word on the release dates or prices for any of these yet, but Samsung will be busy showing these phones off at CommunicAsia 2009 in Singapore which starts today and ends on Friday. Expect to hear more about any of the new Omnias throughout the rest of the week.
